How to Use Mailchimp for Email Marketing?
1. Getting Started
- Visit Mailchimp’s website and select the ‘Sign up for free button from the top right corner
- Fill out the form, submit it, and you will receive an account activation email
- To activate your account click on the “Activate Account “ button
- Then you will be redirected to MailChimp
- It offers several plans, and each is based on the number of contacts you want to store
- You can choose from premium, standard, essentials, and free
- The free plan will allow you to store 2000 contacts which is enough while starting out
- For an established business, you can use Mailchimp’s calculator, where you can choose a plan, use the sliding scale to select a contact threshold, and you can generate your monthly cost
- Click next to set up your account

- Then you will have to enter the URL, and then they will provide a custom code.

3. Adding Contact List and Building Signup Forms
If you have got an email list, well & good.
- Head to the audience section on the left-hand toolbox.
- At the top of the screen, click the “add your contacts” below “grow your Mailchimp audience.”
- Then, you can select how do you want to upload your contacts- manually copying & pasting or as a .csv file.
- Manually uploading contacts can be tricky as you need to follow the format like first putting the email address, then the first name, last name, and address. Mailchimp also provides a formatting guide that can be accessed below the “copy and paste your contacts” headline.
- However, if you choose to upload as a .csv file, it will redirect you to select a file from your computer for uploading.
- It will then call for the selection of the status of your new contacts from a dropdown menu, and you can assign them as subscribed, unsubscribed, non-subscribed, or cleaned.
- In addition, you can also organize your contacts by giving them tags. Here, you can use tags provided by Mailchimp or create your own.
- Then, you can check if Mailchimp has recognized all your contacts; if not, it will alert you of any errors, and you can fix them before completing the process.
- Lastly, you can click “Finalize Import.” Then, after running your eye over the final review page, you can click on “Complete Import.”

3. Subscriber Pop-up
- To create a pop-up subscription box, Mailchimp will take you to an editor where you can use options from the left-hand side menu to edit the pop-up form.
- After designing it, you can click on “save and publish.”

- To create a contact-us form, you can use the already provided template to edit it as per your desire.

- Select “create” from the left-hand toolbox, choose “email,” and from it, select “template.”

5. Creating Your Campaign

- Select the “create” tab and click on “A/B test” under the “Email” sub-option.
- Then, after naming your email campaign, you can “begin.”
- Now, select a list of emails to which you want to send a particular mail.
- After this, you can choose one of the variables: subject line, name, content, and send time.
- You can select any one or all of them (selecting more can complicate the process) and decide how many variations of the email you want to send.
- Use the slider to determine the percentage of subscribers you want to send the mail to and select your winning metrics.
